End of Year Celebrations 2009

Milton-Ulladulla Dog Training Club celebrated a most successful end of year celebration on Sunday December 6 with its Annual Christmas Party and Award Presentation.

Fine weather ensured the day's success which commenced with a Barbeque Breakfast under the control of Henry and Simon followed by the Annual Awards for 2009.

Before the celebrations commenced President Peter Hudson extended congratulations on behalf of the Club to the MUD ON THE PAWS Flyball Team who competed at Canberra. The Tuggerong Torpedoes held the competition and the local team was elevated to 1st Division because of their times and were successful in gaining second place. Their time being 20.209. Team members were Rosie Milton and Wizz, Kylie White and Jackie, Diane Richmond and Lady, Patrick White and Rosie's dog Pac and Jenny Patch and Billy.

Life Membership

At the Annual Presentations, Life Membership of the Club was presented to Fiona Smith,daughter of the Club's Late Patron Peter Smith and now handler of Peter's dog Jimmy who is the Club Patron. Fiona was overcome with the award and in turn presented all Club Dog Training Instructors with a a gift of appreciation for the job they do training dog owners and their dogs. Instructors present being  Peter Hudson, Janet Smith, Rick Venning, Liz Karasonyi, Jenny Patch, Sarah Ball, Robyn Carstens, Roy Cullen, Rosie Milton,Diane Richmond. Absent Robyn Perry and Natalie Moore.Best wishes had been sent from Bob Puttock who was hoping to be at the Presentation but was still on his way home from Darwin.Liz Karasconyi will be taking a break froom instructoring for a few months in 2010,we will miss her expertise and look forward to her return.

A presentation was made to Instructor Robyn Carstens who has retired from Dog Training and was wished every happiness for her wedding in 2010 with Stuart.

Other presentations to members who assist with the running of the Club were made to Ken Terry for his wonderful job with the club's sound system and Margaret Rudd,Publicity Officer.

Special thanks was made to Caraline McLeod who has organised the club's web site and has done a wonderful job.

Awards for 2009 were as follows, all Baby Puppy owners present received Dog Club key rings from Instructor Roy Cullen.

Most Improved Quick Start Class went to Bronwen Spalding and her dog Dotty. Encouragement Award went to Russell Maunder and Jess.

Most Improved Basic Class went to Sylvia Witham and her dog Bear. Encouragment award went to Danielle Butson and Tia.

Most Improved Intermediate Class Ruth Hall and Shandi, Encouragement Awards, Robyn Wallace and Ginger, Louise Hamilton and Darcy, Mark Wilden and Rex.

Most Improved Advanced Class, Rosalin Kidd and Molly, Encouragment Award, Rosemary Rixon and Flynn.Winner of the Agility Trophy for 2009 George Kolek and Lucky. Encouragement Awards Jocelyn Jones and Indi, Louis Dalton and Toby, Tracey Collins and Koda.Most Improved Flyball/Zipball Winner Rosie Milton and Wizz, Encouragement Award Jenny Patch and Billy.

Perpetual Trophies

Peter Smith and Jimmy Award for Most Persistent Handler Winner Natasha Backhouse and Buster. Runners Up Sylvia Males and Tess, Cynthia Larsen and Micky and Bertie, Kim Urquhart and Tyson.

Anne Cook Award for Most Improved Handler Overall Tracey Collins and Koda, Runners Up Rosemary Rixon and Flynn and Scott Backhouse and Betty.

Lyn Brooks Award for Champion Companion Dog Liz Karasconyi and Rose. President's Trophy Club Novice Section Winner, Sylvia Witham and Bear.

Margaret Rudd Trophy for Club Agility, Winner Rick Venning and Kelly, Liz Karsconyi and Rose 2nd and Margaret Rudd and Liz Karasconyi who took Margaret's dog Tessa in the competition for her,3rd place winner.

The Marion Mann Champion Companion Dog Trophy was won by Rosie Milton and Toshi.

A display by the Club's Agility Demonstration Team gave a most impressive display of the demonstration that they had put on for the  recent visit from Jervis Bay by Coastal Waters Retirement Village. This proved to be a great crowd pleaser.

Dog games were held by Chief Instructor Diane Richmond and Rosie Milton and Janet Smith which was enjoyed,winners being Jane  and Rosa, Sylvia and Bear, Jenny and Monty, Mary and Menzies.Prizes were awarded to them.

Fancy Dress Winners

It was great to see those members who took the time to prepare and dress their dogs and in some cases themselves in the Fancy Dress Competition which had a theme of thirty years ago as the Club celebrated its 30th Anniversary this year. Winner was Mark Wilden and his dog Rex who was a real stand out,complete with coloured flowing wig.Second place went to Bronwen and Di Spalding with their dogs Dotti, Lucy and Bella who were really colourful in their Christmas outfits, 3rd place winner was Nerida Robinson and her dog Trin who were dressed as Flower People.Judges who had this unenviable task were our wonderful cooks Simon and Henry.

Winner of the Club's Guessing Competition was David Matthew a $50 Voucher from IGA Milton,2nd prize a Dog Wash donated by Critters Dog Wash went to Barb and 3rd prize,Champagne Glass, wine and chocolates went to Beth Venning. Many thanks for everyone who supported the club and the prize donors.

Chief Instructor Diane Richmond paid tribute to all Club Instructors who give their time freely to help train dog owners and their dogs.

In closing the day's program President Peter Hudson extended season greetings to everyone  wishing them all a safe and happy Christmas.
The Club is now in recess until the first Sunday in February7, 2010,with the Club's Annual General Meeting scheduled for February 28th. Keep this date in mind as the club will be looking for new people to join the Committee.The Club's Agility Team will be perfomring  at Milton A & H Annual Show. Teams will be practising for these events which are great crowd pleasers.

For those interested in the recent World Dog Games held in Sydney they will be shown on the Grant Denyer Show on Channel 7 this Saturday December 19th which should feature member Kim Porter and her dog Brock.

 It is with regret we have learnt that Ruth Hall decided to retire her dog Diesel who had reached his AD & JD Titles in Agiity,but could not continue because of injury.
